About

Hello! I’m Alyssa Varner, a Brooklyn-based freelance designer, illustrator, and cartoonist. I grew up in the Midwest and studied creative writing at the University of Iowa before moving to New York where I studied graphic + web design at Baruch College.

My comics have been exhibited at festivals around New York City including Brooklyn Book Festival, MoCCA Fest, Comic Arts Brooklyn (CAB), the New York Public Library Comic Con, and Pete’s Mini Zine Fest. I was the recipient of an artist residency at SPACE on Ryder Farm in September of 2016. My illustrated essay, “Foraging,” was published in Hobart literary magazine’s Sunday Comics section in 2017.

I have seven years of experience in graphic design (print + digital), as well as WordPress and Squarespace website design. I’ve worked with other creatives, designing advertisements, logos, illustrations, event posters, book covers, album covers, and wedding invitations. Have a project you’d like to discuss? Please get in touch!
