Hello! I’m Alyssa Varner, a Brooklyn-based freelance designer, illustrator, and cartoonist. I grew up in the Midwest and studied creative writing at the University of Iowa before moving to New York where I studied graphic + web design at Baruch College. I spent two years designing in-house at HarperCollins Publishers before starting my own freelance business. I am particularly enthusiastic about typography, books, and design for social good.
My comics have been exhibited at festivals around New York City including MoCCA Fest, Comic Arts Brooklyn (CAB), the New York Public Library Teen Comic Con, and Pete’s Mini Zine Fest. I was the recipient of an artist residency at SPACE on Ryder Farm in September of 2016.
I have nearly six years of experience in graphic design (print + digital), as well as WordPress website design. Much of my work has been with authors and publishers, creating advertisements, book promotions, logos, illustrations, and event posters. I’ve also designed book jackets, album covers, and wedding invitations! I love my job and I want my clients to enjoy the design process. Got questions about design or making comics? Have a project you’d like to discuss? Want to collaborate? Please get in touch!
